MH Equipment Makes 300 Kids Happy for Christmas!

During the week of November 14-18, 2011 MH Equipment employees and their families were busy doing a little shopping. They then took what they purchased and filled shoe boxes with trinkets and toys for little boys and girls all over the world.  By the end of that week we were able to collect over 300 shoe boxes that will make their way to children in need. While individually a shoe box full of toys may seem like a small thing, collectively we were able to impact over 300 children and bring light and happiness where there might have been none before. What an amazing effort!

For more than a decade, Samaritan’s Purse has answered the call to share the love of Jesus Christ with hurting children around the world. In 2010, nearly 8.2 million shoe box gifts were collected internationally from the United States and 12 other countries for  Operation Christmas Child . Since 1993, more than 85 million gift-filled shoe boxes have been distributed to children in more than 130 countries worldwide.

Although the deadline to drop off shoe boxes was November 18,  you can still participate by going online to “Build” a box of your own! (Click here for details)

We would like to thank everyone who participated in collecting and filling shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child!   Because of your caring generosity, we will be making 300 kids who might not even know it is Christmas, happy this Christmas!  Thanks to everyone who participated and making this year’s Operation Christmas Child a HUGE SUCCESS!

As one of MH Equipment‘s designated corporate charities, we are proud to highlight Make-A-Wish Foundation®

Since 1980, the Make-A-Wish Foundation® has enriched the lives of children with life-threatening medical conditions through its wish-granting work. The Foundation’s mission reflects the life-changing impact that a Make-A-Wish®experience has on children, families, referral sources, donors, sponsors and entire communities.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation was founded in 1980 after a little boy named Chris Greicius realized his heartfelt wish to become a police officer. Since its humble beginnings, the organization has blossomed into a worldwide phenomenon, reaching more than 250,000 children around the world.

Although it has become one of the world’s most well-known charities, the Make-A-Wish Foundation has maintained the grassroots fulfillment of its mission.

A network of nearly 25,000 volunteers enable the Make-A-Wish Foundation to serve children with life-threatening medical conditions. Volunteers serve as wish granters, fundraisers, special events assistants and in numerous other capacities.

As the Foundation continues to mature, its mission will remain steadfast. Wish children of the past, present and future will have an opportunity to share the power of a wish®.

MH Equipment Supports Samaritan’s Purse

Earlier this week, we had a blog post highlighting Samaritan’s Purse. As you read, Samaritan’s Purse is a nondenominational evangelical Christian organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world. Since 1970, Samaritan’s Purse has helped meet needs of people who are victims of war, poverty, natural disasters, disease, and famine with the purpose of sharing God’s love through His Son, Jesus Christ.

At MH Equipment, one of our His First Foundation objectives is to provide assistant to those, through no fault of their own, are faced with hardship. That is why MH Equipment has come alongside our employees and aligned with Samaritan’s Purse to provide financial assistance to those facing famine in Africa.

If you read the news, you will know that it has been hard to ignore the widespread devastation that is happening in Africa. What is happening in many African countries is nothing short of a tragedy. As a result of the worst drought in 60 years—worsened by civil conflict and rising food and fuel prices—tens of thousands have died, and millions more are malnourished and at risk of death. The crisis in Africa is an undeniable hardship currently being faced by millions of innocent men, women, and children. These people need help from those who are able and willing to provide assistance – MH Equipment felt that calling. Therefore, as mentioned, we have come along side our employees for charitable giving to Samaritan’s Purse by establishing automatic payroll deduction for those employees willing to make monthly donations. We have also aligned with Samaritan’s Purse as a corporate charity and recently provided $75,000 to assist with their emergency relief program in Africa.

As a supporter of Samaritan’s Purse and the work they are doing in Africa and numerous other counties, we ask that you take a moment to review their website and see for yourself the great accomplishments of this organization. Visit their site at http://www.samaritanspurse.org

If you have questions regarding MH Equipment’s alignment with Samaritan’s purse, please contact Dannelle Dahlhauser at ddahlhauser@mhequipment.com.

Samaritan’s Purse

As one of our MH Equipment designated corporate charities, we are proud to highlight Samaritan’s Purse.

Samaritan’s Purse Mission Statement:

Samaritan’s Purse is a nondenominational evangelical Christian organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world. Since 1970, Samaritan’s Purse has helped meet the needs of people who are victims of war, poverty, natural disasters, disease, and famine with the purpose of sharing God’s love through His Son, Jesus Christ.

Founded by Bob Pierce in 1970, Samaritan’s Purse is an international relief organization currently headed by Franklin Graham, that provides immediate, no-red-tape response to the physical and spiritual needs of individuals in crisis situations (Especially in locations where few others are working). Samaritan’s Purse has worked in more than 100 countries to provide aid.

Introduction to Samaritan's Purse (Click to view video)

Some of the ways Samaritan’s Purse provides assistance to others include:

Emergency Relief Programs offer food, water, and temporary shelter to meet people’s critical needs and give them a chance to rebuild their lives as they are faced with war or famine. Efforts include:

  • In 2003, Samaritan’s Purse airlifted medical supplies and equipment into Baghdad to re-supply and refurbish several medical facilities.
  • In the Sudan, Samaritan’s Purse supported four hospitals, re-established schools and agricultural programs in the Nuba Mountains, and distributed food to 60,000 people near theRed Sea.
  • In Darfur, Samaritan’s Purse provides food for more than 150,000 people each month and has a variety of clean water and agricultural programs.
  • In Niger, Samaritan’s Purse set up a network of therapeutic and supplementary feeding centers to serve hundreds of malnourished infants, children and mothers.

Community Development and Vocational Programs in impoverished villages and neighborhoods help people break the cycle of poverty and give them hope for a better tomorrow. Samaritan’s Purse impacts the lives of vulnerable children through educational, feeding, clothing, and shelter programs that let them know they are not forgotten.

Operation Christmas Child is a ‘global Christmas gift exchange’ project operated by Samaritan’s Purse. Each November it opens thousands of locations, typically at churches or schools, to collect shoeboxes filled with toys,

school supplies, personal items, and other gifts. These boxes are then distributed as Christmas gifts, accompanied by Christian literature. From 1993 through 2008, some 69 million gift boxes have been handed out in more than 130 countries.

Disaster Relief responds to emergency situations. Samaritan’s Purse mobilizes teams of volunteers to repair houses damaged by natural disasters and provide basic necessities to those affected. The organization has four tractor-trailer units loaded with emergency supplies and equipment. Each can serve as a self-contained base in a disaster zone.

Some of Samaritan’s Purse Disaster Relief activities include:

  • After Hurricane Katrina, Rita and Wilma, Samaritan’s Purse mobilized and equipped more than 12,000 volunteers who made emergency repairs on nearly 10,000 houses in five states. The organization also provided more than 350 mobile homes in Louisiana and Mississippi, made permanent repairs on some 1,000 houses and dozens of churches, and is constructing new homes for families who cannot afford to rebuild in New Orleans.
  • Samaritan’s Purse has helped tens of thousands of families in Indonesia, Sri Lanka and India recover from the earthquake and tsunami that struck Dec. 26, 2004. The organization has built some 4,000 houses and established large-scale projects to provide water, food, health care and replacement fishing boats.
  • In response to massive flooding in North Korea in August 2008, Samaritan’s Purse chartered a cargo jet to deliver $8.3 million in medicine and other emergencysupplies to the area.

World Medical Mission, the medical arm of Samaritan’s Purse, was founded in 1977 by brothers Dr. Richard Furman and Dr. Lowell Furman to enable doctors to serve short-term assignments at overwhelmed missionary hospitals. The Post-Residency Program supports physicians as they serve two-year terms in mission hospitals and consider becoming career missionaries. World Medical Mission also operates a warehouse that ships equipment and supplies to mission hospitals and provides them with technical support.

Children’s Heart Project provides surgery for children born with heart defects in countries where proper care is not available. Children are brought to North America, where services are donated by hospitals, surgeons, and host families and churches.

HIV/AIDS Projects mobilize private, church, corporate, and government resources to respond to the AIDS pandemic. In partnership with the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, Samaritan’s Purse is working in East Africa with education about the disease and abstinence-based prevention programs.

Turn on the Tap is a campaign to provide safe drinking water in the developing world. Samaritan’s Purse-Canada holds the license to build BioSand Water Filters, which can provide a family with a perpetual source of safe drinking water. Samaritan’s Purse also drills and repairs wells, sets up large-scale filters in disaster zones, and helps to educate communities in hygiene and sanitation.

As you can tell from reading the long list of on-going projects by Samaritan’s Purse, that it is an amazing organization providing assistance to individuals in need world-wide. These efforts are just a few ways that tens of
thousands of people have been assisted when it mattered most. MH Equipment is honored to be aligned with Samaritan’s Purse and to help make a difference in the lives of others.

Aiding Japan

Pictures, videos and stories in the news regarding the devastation in Japan due to the earthquake and tsumani are heart-wrenching. In keeping with the MH value of investing in our communities, our His First Foundation is making a $15,000 donation to Samaritian’s Purse for disaster relief in Japan. His First Foundation, one of our corporate charities, is also matching employee donations for Japanese disaster relief.

If you’re interesting in making a donation, please consider donating to Samaritian’s Purse for disaster relief. Not only are they helping Japan, but they are supporting many other relief projects as well.

Hands-on in Our Communities

Excellent customer service is a core building block in which we operate, however, as a company we believe that it is important to fulfill the opportunities placed before us daily: to improve the communities in which we live. It’s our responsibility to join our employees in their charitable efforts to make a difference in the lives of those around us.

Ten years ago, in 2001, MH Equipment established our His First Foundation. Our Foundation was created to support our employees with their charitable efforts in the areas of faith, secular good works and acts of kindness. In addition to support and financial assistance given to charities through His First Foundation, in 2008 we added chartiable time as an employee benefit. Through charitable time, an employee can donate 8 hours a year of paid time off to a non profit charity of their choice.

This year, we will continue to invest in our communities by supporting our four corporate charities through hands-on volunteer work and donations.

  • Make-A-Wish Foundation: The Make-A-Wish Foundation grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.
