NACCO Man Wins Executive of the Year

March 5, 2012

NACCO Materials Handling Groups
(NMHG) Managing Director for the Asia-Pacific Region Andrew Satterley has been named Executive of the year by Stanford Who’s Who.

Satterly, who has been in the materials handling business over 25 years, achieved the recognition from the international business network  in January for “formulating and successfully implementing strategic and operational plans”.
Since joining NMHG in its Sydney-based materials handling operation for the Asia-Pacific region in July 2011, Satterley has spearheaded a comprehensive growth program for the company’s Yale and Hyster brands.
Along with materials handling, access equipment and logistics, his experience spans a wide variety of markets including building construction, mining, manufacturing and government.

He previously played major roles in business transformation processes with well-known companies Crown Equipment Corporation, Linde Material Handling and most recently as Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Customer Support for JLG Industries.

Satterley is currently responsible for planning and implementing strategic financial management, marketing and sales systems to help drive regional growth for NMHG.

He says his goal for Australian and  fast growing Asia-markets is to apply NMHG’s financial, technical and logistics resources to provide an industry-best ownership experience for Yale and Hyster brand users.

“Customers will progressively experience a major upgrade in specialised Hyster support covering everything from the quality and responsiveness of field service operations to replacement parts availability and solution focused sales consultants,” Satterley says.

“A similar transformation is in development for NMHG’s other respected brand, Yale, which has over 80 years’ global experience and strong representation at over 30 locations throughout the Asia-Pacific region.”

Headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio in the United States, NACCO Materials Handling Group is the parent company for Yale and Hyster. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of NACCO Industries Inc.

Heavy Equipment is a Tempting Target for Theives

HEAVY EQUIPMENT IS A TEMPTING TARGET FOR THIEVES

The Facts:

Heavy equipment theft is a growing problem throughout North America. As with vehicle theft, organized crime rings are the primary driving force behind heavy equipment theft. In many instances, these sophisticated criminals have equipment shopping lists. They know the types of equipment they want and where to find it, and frequently target construction sites rather than secured dealer lots.

Many of these organized criminal rings send stolen construction equipment to other countries. Stolen equipment is often transported to the nearest port or across the border prior to its being reported as stolen.

To help combat this problem, equipment manufacturers adopted a standard worldwide 17-digit product identification number (PIN) system beginning with their year 2000 models. With this format, international law enforcement computer systems can better check, verify, and track equipment reported stolen.

Theft Prevention Tips:

  • Render equipment immobile or difficult to move after hours or on weekends by:
    • not leaving equipment, such as backhoes, on trailers when unattended;
    • clustering equipment in a “wagon circle” with more easily transported equipment, such as compressors, in the middle, surrounded by larger pieces of equipment.
  • Maintain a log listing all equipment serial or product identification numbers in a central location. If possible, include photos and other identifying information.
  • Use hydro locks to fix articulated equipment in a curved position, preventing them from traveling in a straight line.
  • Use sleeve locks to fix backhoe pads in an extended position, keeping wheels off the ground.
  • Install a system that disables the equipment’s electrical or ignition system if universal keys are used.
  • Install a tracking transmitter system in each unit designed for construction and heavy-duty equipment.

Need a Helping Hand this Spring?

Spring is just around the corner and If you have seasonal spikes, a boost in volume or an unexpected breakdown, you’ll need a little ‘extra help’ to help with your material handling and construction equipment needs.

All warehouse and plant managers know the importance of reliable equipment to move heavy materials around the warehouse. Having immediate access to this type of equipment is one of many reasons to rent – but what are some other common reasons to rent?

  1. Fixed Monthly Costs: Makes it easier to create budgets with a fixed amount that includes no additional costs such as maintenance or replacement parts
  2. Maintenance Free: The responsibility of maintenance is covered by the company in which you rented the equipment from.
  3. No Capital Expense: Equipment ownership is not tied up and can be used for expanding business
  4. Flexibility: Renting provides greater flexibility as you can add or remove forklifts from your fleet when demand changes
  5. Seasonal or Short-Term Projects: If you only require a forklift for a limited time a rental often makes perfect sense.
  6. Quick Delivery: Often you can often acquire a rental within a day to alleviate an immediate need.
  7. Maintain Production: If your current forklift is in service or broken down it is best way to keep your operations productivity running.
  8. Try Before You Buy: Product brochures can only tell you so much about a forklift. Ultimately, you want to choose the forklift that is best suited for your needs and the needs of your operators. The best way to figure out if a particular forklift is suited for your needs is to use that particular make and model in your warehouse. Forklift rental allows you to try out a number of different forklifts before making your final purchasing decision.

Regardless of whether you need short-term or long term rental, skid steer or backhoe loader, lift truck or industrial sweeper / scrubber, we have you covered. Our material handling and construction equipment rental specialists are here to help you make the right decision and to provide you with all the information you need about our rental program. You simply will not find a more efficient destination to rent machinery than at MH Equipment.

Top Plant 2011 | NACCO Material Handling Group of Berea, KY

Manufacturers Around The U.S. And Around The World Are Succeeding In Manufacturing Because They Have Placed Their Bets On The Right Aspects Of Their Business.

For the past three years, manufacturing must have seemed like a high-stakes poker game to some people. It also seems the game has been played only two ways—fold, or go all in.

If you have ever seen the World Series of Poker, though, you know the only people who go all in are either supremely confident or desperate, and neither seems like an especially sound business strategy.

There is a third way to play, of course. It takes a lot more work and a lot more patience, and it won’t always yield positive results on every play, but it is a surer way to build your chips. You have to place your bets in the right places, at the right moments. You must manage the game for the long term, and not just play the game looking for the one big hand.

Manufacturers around the U.S. and around the world are succeeding in manufacturing because they have placed their bets on the right aspects of their business. They cannot control what other players have in their hands. They play the cards they are dealt and seize the opportunity to improve when it comes along.

Our 2011 Top Plant winner, NACCO Material Handling Group of Berea, Ky., is an outstanding example of placing your bets in the right place. NACCO bet on its people to help grow the organization. In doing so, the company has helped grow the community.  Read More…
